Betsy H. Schofield Memorial Fund

Donor Name: Scott & Katie Schofield
Established: 1/1/2008

The fund was created for Betsy H. Schofield by her son, Scott, and daughter-in-law, Katie. It was created as a lasting legacy in honor of her twenty years of cancer survivorship and as a tribute to her as a wonderfully loving wife, mother and friend. This fund was established to continue to support cancer research and survivorship programs as Betsy did in her lifetime.

Betsy's experience with cancer led her on the path to working with the American Cancer Society's Reach to Recovery program in Northern Virginia. This program was one of the earliest survivorship programs for women recovering from cancer. Betsy was the district coordinator and served on the executive board of the American Cancer Society's Northern Virginia chapter. In 1994 she was awarded the American Cancer Society's Terese Lasser Award for her exceptional service.

This endowment, through Livestrong, will ensure that worthy cancer survivorship programs will continue to be funded and that those affected by cancer will receive much needed support.

Upon Betsy's death, a memorial resolution was passed by the Virginia State Senate recognizing her as a leader in support organizations for cancer patients.
