The Joys remember Judy with love. She and Scott raised four wonderful children: Alison, Katie, David, and Eric.

After graduating from Bowdoin College and marrying Scott, Judy worked as a human factors analyst, paused her career to devote time to her children, received a master’s degree in education from Lesley University, taught elementary school students, wrote the young adult science fiction novels A Doorway Through Space and A Doorway Through Time, and returned to work as a business systems analyst.

Judy had a lovely soprano voice, which she used in choruses and community musical theater productions through early adulthood and later as a member of and soloist with the Rockingham Choral Society. She was known for her charming hoot of a laugh, quirky sense of humor, and inventive word choices. She loved playing games and spending time outdoors, especially at the family camp in northern Maine and skiing. She was an avid reader of good literature with a special love of young adult fiction; her final passion was a series of Teddy Roosevelt biographies.

Scott is a testicular cancer survivor and Livestrong Foundation supporter since 2003. A decade later, Judy was diagnosed with an unusually virulent form of multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, and her disease could not be controlled. The Foundation’s support and the Livestrong community have seen the Joy family through turbulent times.

A portion of sales of Judy’s books will be donated annually to the Joy Family Fund.
